Geodes and Druses
What is a geode?
A geode is a rock cavity lined with crystals. Its size can vary from a few centimeters to several meters.
The walls of geodes are covered with crystallized aggregates that have formed naturally over millennia.
Geodes are often found in:
- Amethyst
- Citrine
- Celestite
- Rock crystal
- Agate
What is a druse (or macle)?
A druse, sometimes called a macle, is a natural assemblage of crystals formed on a rock surface.
Unlike a geode, a druse does not have an internal cavity.
It is often flat or slightly domed, and can take oval, pointed or rounded shapes.
Difference between a geode and a druse
- Geode: internal cavity, rather round shape, crystals oriented inwards.
- Druse: flat or domed crystalline surface, no cavity, open appearance.
Geodes in history and literature
Geodes have always inspired writers and travelers. Here are a few examples:
- "The holed stone must let itself be inhabited, like a geode, by a chasm of light." – Anne-Sophie Constant, Transversalités, 2020
- Jules Verne mentions geodes in his adventure stories.
- In the modern press, there is still talk of "giant geodes," a rock cavity lined with crystals (Ouest-France, 2019).
Geodes and druses: energy and benefits
Beyond their beauty, geodes and druses are used in lithotherapy and spiritual decoration:
- They promote energetic harmony in a place.
- Amethyst geodes are renowned for purifying and calming.
- Rock crystal druses amplify energies and recharge stones.
✨ Whether for collection, meditation, or simply for their natural aesthetic, geodes and druses fascinate with their mineral power and universal symbolism.
