    Origin The kalimba originates from sub-Saharan Africa. It is derived from the mbira (Zimbabwe) and the likembe (Congo). It was modernized in the 1950s by Hugh Tracey in South Africa.
    Names) Kalimba, Mbira, Thumb piano (thumb piano).
    Number of blades 14 blades (metal keys), usually tuned to C major .
    Matter Body made of resonating wood (mahogany, koa, maple…), steel blades.
    Standard tuning C4–D4–E4–F4–G4–A4–B4–C5–D5–E5–F5–G5–A5–B5. (Can be easily retuned with a special hammer).
    Sound Soft, crystalline, meditative. Resembles a small harp or a music box.
    Game mode The blades are pinched with the thumbs (sometimes also the index fingers).
