Grape agate, also known as botryoidal chalcedony, is a variety of chalcedony , consisting of quartz crystallites and botryoidal morphology (i.e., formed of small contiguous balls resembling a bunch of grapes ).

Analyses, particularly by Raman spectroscopy , show that it is not an agate , contrary to what its commercial name implies.

It is very often purple, less often white, grey, green or blue.

The type locality for grape agate is Manakarra beach, on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi .
