🏔️ A little history and symbolism

Chalk is a soft, white rock, formed over 70 million years ago, at the end of the dinosaur era (Late Cretaceous). At that time, vast, shallow seas covered much of Europe, including France and England.

In these warm waters lived billions of tiny marine organisms— foraminifera, coccoliths, microscopic algae —which, upon their death, slowly sank to the seabed. Their calcareous shells accumulated over millions of years, forming thick deposits which, when compressed, gave rise to chalk.

The cliffs of Dover (England) or the cliffs of Étretat (France) are made of this spectacular white chalk, a witness to an ancient, vanished ocean.
