First discovered in Canada, grossular garnet owes its name to the Latin word grossularia, meaning gooseberry, due to the characteristic green color of some of its varieties. This hue was reminiscent of the bunches of gooseberries found near the extraction site.

Unlike classic red garnet, grossular is distinguished by an astonishingly varied palette: from the bright green of tsavorite to the golden brown of hessonite, including pink and honey.

This diversity has fascinated jewelers since the 19th century, especially after the discovery of magnificent crystals in East Africa, in the hills of Kenya and Tanzania.

Tsavorite, in particular, gained its prestige in the 1970s thanks to Tiffany & Co., which popularized it as a natural alternative to emerald.

In ancient traditions, garnets—including grossular—were seen as stones of inner fire, capable of rekindling vitality, courage, and strength of heart. They were believed to protect travelers and encourage perseverance in the face of adversity.
