Moldavite (or moldavia in common usage) is a rare stone, fascinating both for its origin and its esoteric properties. Here is a clear overview of its mineralogy, its virtues, and its connection to astrological signs.

Moldavite is a glassy material that can form during a meteorite impact , such as the moldavite from the Czech Republic , which was formed by the Ries eruption during the Langhian age 14.4 million years ago. The link to the Ries eruption has been proven by experiments on the age of these tektites and on projectiles subjected to high acceleration.

The impact melts the silicates, which become molten tektites with a vitreous appearance, produced by the high temperature.

Geologists and crystallographers believe that these tektites form in milliseconds , when the molten top layer of the Earth's surface is ejected at very high speed in billions of fragments that solidify into natural glasses ranging in color from olive green to dark green.
