📎 Other Specifications:

The gong is traditionally made from a high-quality bronze alloy composed of copper and tin. This material is expertly forged to create a full, resonant sound.

The Wind Gong is a traditional Chinese percussion instrument. It is also very popular in the West. The black color of this gong is its original color as it comes out of the kiln. The pattern is created by rotating the gong, thus removing the outer oxidized layer. Wind gongs are flat bronze discs without a rim, unlike the Tam-tam gong, with a low fundamental pitch, heavy overtones, and a long sustain.

They are made of electrolytic copper and tin. Traditionally, a wind gong is played with a large, flexible mallet, giving it a roaring crash to match its namesake.

Playing accessories: To play the gong, a mallet or beater lined with felt or leather is generally used. The choice of tool affects the quality of the sound. For example, softer mallets produce a deep, buzzing sound, while harder mallets produce a clear, penetrating sound.

The gong produces a wide range of sounds, depending on the percussion instruments used:

  • Soft Mallet: Creates a deep, resonant, and mysterious sound that builds and expands slowly in space.
  • Hard mallet: delivers a high, clear, rising sound that travels through space and fades quickly.
  • Rubber beater: produces a compact, defined sound with fewer overtones, ideal for specific musical accents.

Each of these playing instruments allows the musician to adapt the emotional and acoustic impact of the gong to the specific needs of the performance or setting.
